Assistant Professor Research Research Areas: Analytical Chemistry Environmental/Atmospheric Chemistry Research Interests: The Leach lab employs mass spectrometry to explore the impacts of environmental exposure (infectious disease, emerging pollutants, and radiation) on glycosylation (glycomics) and metabolism (metabolomics). These efforts span traditional chemical instrumentation, analytical method development, and both biomedical and environmental applications. Our primary technical emphasis lies at the interface of liquid chromatography which enables structural annotation and imaging which allows the determination of spatial molecular distributions in tissues. To date, these projects include the measurement of SARS-CoV2 variant profiles, murine renal responses to PFAS exposure, and responses to ionizing radiation in Medaka, a model teleost. To support these applications, we have focused on the development of new ion detection schemes and signal processing opportunities that will provide increased throughput for large studies.
