An override is a flag that the Chemistry Department adds to your registration record that allows you to register for a course that would ordinarily be prohibited. IMPORTANT: An override only gives you permission to register for a particular course. It does not grant you a seat in a specific section, nor does it make a seat available if the desired section is full, or if all sections are full. There are two types of override: Prerequisite Override, and Lecture Capacity Override. A Prerequisite Override allows you to register for a course without having completed a prerequisite or corequisite course. It is also required if you want to drop a lecture or lab without dropping the co-requisite. For example, Prerequisite Overrides are routinely granted for students who have already taken and passed the lab part of a course but need to re-take the lecture. IMPORTANT: A Prerequisite Override does not allow you to register for a lecture section that is full. Lecture Capacity Overrides allows you to register for a lecture in which there are no seats open. These overrides are only applicable when a specific lecture section has not been opened to its physical capacity. Note: the Chemistry Department cannot, under any circumstances, give a Capacity Override for a room that is at its physical capacity, because of Fire Code regulations. Laboratory Capacity Overrides: There is no such thing as a Laboratory Capacity Override. That’s because the maximum number of seats is determined by the physical arrangement of the laboratory room. For General Chemistry, the maximum number of seats in the room is generally 24. IMPORTANT: Classroom and laboratory seating capacities have been substantially reduced for Fall 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Athena system will enforce the proper number of seats in any section. Contact Us Requests for information or support are handled through email exchange with the General Chemistry Administrator. Send all email to chemreg@uga.edu. Do NOT send requests to any other email address; doing so will delay your support by 2 to 5 business days. Allow one full business day for a reply. If, for example, you send a request at 6 PM on a Wednesday, it will be received the following morning, and a reply can be generally expected one business day later, which would be Friday morning. Do not send additional emails on the same topic; this will delay your support by 1 to 3 business days. You must include your full name, MyID, and 810 number on all email. If any of this information is missing, the email will be returned without action, resulting in a delay. All credit transfer and overrides require that you attach a copy of your transcript. If you do not have an official transcript yet, you may send a screen shot of the unofficial grade report or online transcript. The screen shot must show the following information: Name of the institution. Name of the student Year and semester The course number (e.g. “CHEM 3456”) and title (e.g. “Inorganic Chemistry”). Grade If the transcript is not attached, the email will be returned without action, resulting in a delay.
