Transfers for General and Organic Chemistry Course credit from other institutions may be eligible for transfer as UGA CHEM credit if the course meets the criteria listed below. If CHEM courses are not listed for a given institution on the transfer equivalency site, transfer students should submit the syllabi for their courses to the transfer credit approval form for evaluation, and the course will be reviewed based on the following criteria. General Criteria The transfer courses must match or exceed the number of credit hours of the corresponding UGA course. Students who have only taken lecture but no lab at a prior institution may be able to register for the corresponding lab at the University of Georgia. Students who took lab but not lecture at a prior institution will not be able to register for only lecture. Online labs will not be accepted as equivalent - lab work must have been done in person. The course must cover similar content to the UGA course, as demonstrated by the syllabus and schedule of experiments. Please ensure the syllabi you submit includes a schedule of topics for lecture courses, and a schedule of experiments for lab courses.* *Transfer credit deemed insufficient by the department can be challenged by the transfer student by taking and passing the standardized American Chemical Society (ACS) exam for the given course. For example, if the department deems a general chemistry class as inequivalent to CHEM 1211 General Chemistry I, the student has the opportunity to take the ACS exam to receive credit. When filling out this form please indicate how you would like your transfer credits to be utilized: To satisfy Area II Physical Science credit To satisfy major requirements and/or satisfy pre-requisite requirements Contact Us Requests for information or support are handled through email exchange with the General Chemistry Administrator. Send all email to chemreg@uga.edu. Do NOT send requests to any other email address; doing so will delay your support by 2 to 5 business days. Allow one full business day for a reply. If, for example, you send a request at 6 PM on a Wednesday, it will be received the following morning, and a reply can be generally expected one business day later, which would be Friday morning. Do not send additional emails on the same topic; this will delay your support by 1 to 3 business days. You must include your full name, MyID, and 810 number on all email. If any of this information is missing, the email will be returned without action, resulting in a delay. All credit transfer and overrides require that you attach a copy of your transcript. If you do not have an official transcript yet, you may send a screen shot of the unofficial grade report or online transcript. The screen shot must show the following information: Name of the institution. Name of the student Year and semester The course number (e.g. “CHEM 3456”) and title (e.g. “Inorganic Chemistry”). Grade If the transcript is not attached, the email will be returned without action, resulting in a delay.
