The Department of Chemistry is strongly committed to the success of its undergraduate majors. In addition to coursework, our program features numerous research opportunities for undergraduate students. The Role of Academic Advising As part of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, the Chemistry Department requires all students to have an advising appointment every semester in order to be cleared to register for classes. All Chemistry majors are advised in the Chemistry Department by a professional academic advisor, starting with their first semester at UGA. The central role of an advisor is to help students make progress toward graduation. In addition to recommending classes, advisors can assist students with a wide range of academic concerns and provide references to other resources available at UGA. Specific questions about Chemistry may also be referred to the Undergraduate Coordinator or other members of the Chemistry faculty. Current UGA Students If you are considering changing your major to Chemistry, please contact the academic advisor directly with any questions. If you have recently changed your major to Chemistry, you will need to be assigned to the advisor’s list of students in Sage. Please notify the advisor to verify that you have been correctly assigned. Incoming Freshmen and Transfer Students If you are an incoming University of Georgia student, feel free to contact the Chemistry advisor with any questions about the Chemistry curriculum, requirements, or UGA in general.
